And what does it look like and how is it reflected here at Savu South Alor? In this Blog, we aim to set out how we define barefoot luxury and how we implement it across our operations to ensure that our guests have the best possible stays and experiences with us.
What Barefoot Luxury Means to Us
For us, barefoot luxury means combining the added extras and comfort that you associate with luxury together with a sand-between-your-toes sense of freedom. Barefoot luxury at Savu South is also closely connected to our mission and vision to be as sustainable as possible across all of our operations. Instead of opting for unsustainable opulence we choose sustainable solutions that highlight the beauty of nature.
Putting the Luxury in Barefoot Luxury Accommodation
When it comes to accommodation, nothing spells luxury more than space and our beach cottages and cliff villas have plenty of it! Our generous cottages and villas are exquisitely decorated and thoughtfully appointed with natural touches. You’ll find everything you would expect from a luxury hotel including a beautiful queen or king size bed in our villas, as well as a day bed from which you can take in unimpeded views of the ocean.
For additional comfort and convenience, our rooms also have writing desks, ample storage and hanging space, and all of the additional extras that you would expect from a 5 star hotel – no compromises. All rooms come complete with hairdryers, safety deposit boxes, air conditioning, ceiling fans, complimentary drinking water, tea & local coffee, and even complimentary minibars.
In addition, you will also find that you have a huge semi-open ensuite bathroom with a rainfall shower, and of course, we provide complimentary toiletries – all of which are biodegradable and carefully curated with scents derived from local fauna. You also have your own outdoor shower, direct access to the ocean, private beachfront sunbeds, a relaxation bale, and just to go one step beyond, all rooms have their own set of binoculars so you can look out for whales passing the front of the resort from the privacy of your own cottage.
Our Cliff Villas don’t just offer space and all the added extras – they go one step beyond. Perched at the highest point of our resort, each of the villas features an exquisitely appointed master bedroom with king size bed that opens out onto a deck with sunbeds and an upholstered ‘bale’ next to your very own private plunge pool.
Fine Dining vs Finest Produce
The term ‘fine dining’ often conjures up images of starched white napkins and tablecloths, awkwardly hovering waiters, and a maître d’ that is watching over every forkful. We are exceptionally proud of our dining and much of our produce is homegrown in our organic gardens. Dining however is a much more relaxed affair. You can expect to receive exceptional service but our waiters don’t wear white gloves and they while they won’t pull out your chair for you, we can guarantee you will be seated on reclaimed wood!
We use the freshest of homegrown ingredients and when we outsource produce we aim to buy from local producers to support the local economy. Due to ethical reasons, we won’t fly in your choice of caviar but we do stock our kitchen with exquisite items from suppliers in Bali.

Our passion is creating a more down to earth experience whilst quality and service remain at the forefront. Our mission is to ensure that our guests feel cared for and want for nothing, yet feel at ease in our unobtrusive environment, and are able to relax and connect with our stunning surroundings.
Our Team and Commitment to Service
Warmhearted and friendly service is at the center of our operations. While our staff aim to provide exclusive and personal service, we don’t expect them to stand on parade and only speak when spoken to. They will greet you with a beaming smile and a friendly ‘hello’ when they see you in the resort. They are always happy to chat and share their invaluable local knowledge with our guests. We employ staff from nearby villages to support the local economy and to provide opportunities for development.
While we may not have butler bells, we do have a whale bell!
